Hace un par de semanas, los especialistas de Cyber Ventures, me hicieron una interesante entrevista sobre los nuevos desafíos que esta digitalización acelerada presenta para la ciberseguridad de las organizaciones.

Aquí comparto un extracto de esta interesante conversación.

La Ciberseguridad en tiempos de Covid

Karl Maslo, ejecutivo de amplia experiencia en la alta gerencia de empresas de nivel internacional, como CEO, Gerente General, mentor y asesor, liderando procesos de transformación cultural y excelencia operacional, conversa con nosotros acerca de la ciberseguridad en tiempos de Covid, las buenas prácticas y el papel que juegan los líderes y sus colaboradores en este tema fundamental para las empresas de hoy.

- ¿De qué manera ha impactado el Covid a las empresas y cómo podría afectar a sus negocios?

Una digitalización acelerada como la que vivimos en 2020, y que verá su pico más alto este año, implica múltiples ventajas pero también nuevos riesgos. El teletrabajo, la ausencia de mecanismos de control y el mal aprovechamiento de las tecnologías de Cloud Computing han puesto a muchas empresas en un terreno que les resulta desconocido y, por tanto, mucho más vulnerables ante amenazas cibernéticas que llevan años aprovechando fallos de seguridad.

- ¿Cuales son las principales amenazas?

Aquellas que ponen en riesgo la información confidencial o sensible de las empresas, tales como estados financieros, informes o bases de datos de clientes. El Ransomware, por ejemplo. Si tomamos en cuenta que muchos colaboradores se llevaron sus equipos a casa, ya no existe esa división entre la actividad personal y la actividad profesional, eso los hace mucho más vulnerables.

Otras amenazas son los ataques de fuerza bruta, un intento continuo de diferentes contraseñas hasta “atinar” con una que permite desbloquear el sistema. Asimismo, los ataques DOO’s, que hacen múltiples peticiones a un servidor hasta hacerlo colapsar, son amenazas que, mientras para las empresas más habituadas a este entorno digital son comunes y controladas, para las que están en pleno proceso de digitalización pueden significar escenarios nuevos e incluso pérdidas considerables.

- ¿Cuáles son las industrias más vulnerables?

Definitivamente, aquellas que ya venían sufriendo problemas de ciberataques antes de la pandemia: banca, seguros, telecomunicaciones y entretenimiento, y que, con cada vez más usuarios digitalizados, se ven envueltas en problemas de suplantación de identidad (phishing), robo de data sensible y ataques directos a sus servidores.

Asimismo, las empresas dedicadas a los servicios de salud han sido víctimas de ciberdelincuentes que, aprovechando la coyuntura, crean copias de sus sitios o páginas de destino para robar la información privada de sus usuarios o potenciales clientes.

Las instituciones públicas, especialmente en nuestro país, tiene infraestructuras informáticas que aún no migran a la nube, contando además con software obsoleto o no preparado para amenazas que evolucionan cada día.

- ¿Y cuales serían las buenas prácticas?

En definitiva, las empresas tienen que manejar un solo enfoque y un solo estándar en lo que es seguridad, ya sea esta física, industrial o ciberseguridad, y en ese sentido establecer los más altos niveles de seguridad en todos sus ámbitos manteniendo siempre los riesgos al mínimo. Sin embargo, las empresas también tienen que ser conscientes de que ningún sistema es 100% seguro. La pregunta no es si sufrirán un ataque cibernético o una fuga de información, sino cuándo. Y cuando ocurra, deberán estar lo mejor preparadas para tomar acciones rápidas y resolver la situación.

Para ello es importante que tengan un backup actualizado de su información, soluciones de ciberseguridad acordes al nivel de vulnerabilidad y a la arquitectura de sus sistemas, servidores en la nube, que permitan mantener versiones de sus documentos o bases de datos y sistemas de encriptación de punto a punto que incrementen el grado de dificultad para quienes quieran vulnerar sus sistemas.
